Water Features and Courtyards

Custom Designed Natural Waterscapes

Japanese Landscaping specalizes in creating natural waterscapes: spectacular watergardens, waterfalls, streams, ponds and quiet meditative reflection pools.

We approach water features design and construction as a living art form. Our design skill involves crafting an environment that is based on nature…using natural materials: rock, river stone, pebbles and sand to produce a result that is one of a kind.

Each water feature we build is therefore unique and designed to harmonize with its specific location to achieve a classic garden of the highest quality.

From design to installation, we will supply and install the correct underlayment, liner, low voltage lighting, filtration system and pump to support aquatic plant and fish life. So whether it is the tranquil sound of running waterfall or the beauty of water lilies blooming, we can add a splash of life and colour to your property.

To compliment your watergarden, we use only the finest traditional oriental granite garden lanterns, waterbowls and towers.

Biofiltration Systems Design and Construction Expertise

Over the past 20 years, we have developed efficient interior and exterior biological treatment systems, using a combination of traditional techniques and latest materials developed to assist in the filtration of wastes, guaranteeing healthy, balanced water environments suitable for Koi Carp.

Suikinkutsu (Water Harp Hollow)

Japanese Landscaping has re-discovered and mastered the lost art of constructing Suikinkutsu. The 'water-harp hollow' technique was conceived and developed by Japanese gardeners during the Edo period 200 years ago. As time went by however, the technique received less and less attention and today in modern Japan it is only a name that is reminiscent of Imperial gardens long ago.

Suikinkutsu refers to a relatively small cave or hollow set underneath the ground near a washbasin in the garden. The hollow produces a harp-like echoing sound effect as water drips into the hollow. Thus, it provides a mysterious sound for people strolling through the garden.

Courtyards

In Japan, courtyards have a long tradition dating back some 450 years ago to the Kyoto period.

Japanese Landscaping has developed a unique style of courtyard design and construction by combining traditional Japanese methods with modern construction materials and techniques.

Each courtyard can be individually designed to achieve a maximum extension to the family living area that is functional, practical and aesthetical. Courtyards can either be enclosed or open to the air…or a combination of both, incorporating easy care and minimum maintenance to suit a busy modern lifestyle.

Typical courtyard styles can include: water features, a peaceful solitude or reflection area, a sitting or dining area, a stroll garden, art display garden, bonsai display garden etc.

Courtyards can also include a modern alfresco (sheltered outdoor living) area with a lush backdrop of plants.

Courtyard design and construction is only limited by your imagination, which can be skilfully interpreted, designed and crafted by Eiji Morozumi and our construction team.
